The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in a Child Pornography investigation. On Friday, November 6, 2015, at 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a call for a man viewing child pornography on a public computer at the Employment and Social Services Centre at Lawrence Square. It is alleged that: - a man was in possession of images of child pornography - he was viewing these images on a public computer On Wednesday, December 16, 2015, investigators from the TPS Child Exploitation Section executed a search warrant in North York Stephen Joseph Schacter, 55, of Toronto, was arrested and is now charged with: 1) Possession of Child Pornography He appeared in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, 10 a.m., room 306. It is further alleged that: - Stephen Joseph Schacter was an elementary school teacher for the Eitz Chaim schools between 1986 and 2004 - he was the office administrator at the United Synagogue Day School between 2005 and 2009 - he also worked as a private tutor from 2009 until 2011 - a review of the seized evidence has police concerned that he may have had inappropriate contact with students in the past Police urge anyone believing Stephen Joseph Schacter had inappropriate contact to call investigators so the incident can be investigated or to receive support.
